Plastic Pollution

18016501759253577.jpg

This painting, featuring a plastic-coated ocean spilling out plastic waste was intended to raise people's awareness of plastic pollution and the damage it has on our ocean and the life within it.

However, the plastic within the painting is hidden and can only been seen at specific angles or when the artwork is touched. This is similar to how the plastic in our sea goes unnoticed until washed up on shore.

Conscious that this subject may be overwhelming, I invited my peers to collect plastic waste from their own homes. These were added to the fishing net, at the bottom of the painting. I intended on putting emphasis on how much plastic can be saved from going into the ocean when people work together to face an issue larger than themselves.

This installation was exhibited in December 2019 at Treforest, University of South Wales.
