Freshening Clouds: Access Resource Prototype

Freshening Clouds is originally a painting by Julius Osslon, found at the National Museum of Wales.

The painting featured an ocean in the foreground and a small sailing boat drifting towards a thick curtain of clouds that dominated the scene. Naturally, I was drawn to this piece as it was a seascape that displayed a lot of texture. Therefore, I created a sensory diorama, turning it into an accessible piece of artwork for all members of society to interact with. This was in partnership with the Visually Impaired Visitor Group at the National Museum of Wales.

Using a range of different materials, I incorporated both visual and tactile elements, focusing on temperature and light. The diorama holds three different layers, intending to take the viewer's eyes and hands on a journey from 'under the ocean' to being 'in the clouds'.

This access resource will be available at the National Museum of Wales, once the Covid 19 rules     are lifted.
